Vi and Kerala Police collaborate to launch Vi powered QR Code bands to track children at Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur, April 16, 2024: After the effective implementation of QR Code for the safety of young children at Sabarimala during last annual Mandala pooja season, India’s leading telecom player Vi is replicating the same in association with Kerala Police Department to ensure the safety of children during Thrissur Pooram – 2024.  

 

Thrissur pooram is one of the largest festivals in Asia with more than 1 million Pooram Enthusiasts assembling on the Thekkinkadu Maidanam in Thrissur. Every year, the ongoing issue of children getting separated from their families in large crowds and the subsequent efforts to reunite them has been a significant source of distraction and concern for the Kerala Police. Recognising the difficulties faced by both parents and law enforcement in handling such a large event like Pooram, Vi has introduced a QR code technology to enhance the safety and security of children.

 

Ankit Asokan IPS, Thrissur District Police Chief, officially launched the Vi QR Code bands initiative in the presence of R S Shantaram, Cluster Business Head – Kerala & Tamil Nadu, Vodafone Idea Limited, Binu Jose, Vice President & Circle Operations Head - Kerala, Vodafone Idea Limited, Subin Sebastian, Trissur Zonal Manager Vodafone Idea Limited at a function in Thrissur SP Office, today.

The Vi Suraksha QR code technology wristband will greatly streamline the tasks of the Kerala State Police Force in handling instances of missing children, ultimately reuniting young children with their families.   

Guardians can obtain Vi powered QR Code bands by visiting the Vi stalls located at Thekkinkadu Maidanam. They will need to provide the required information during the registration process. Additionally, Vi has partnered with the Kerala Police to introduce a dedicated Pooram Helpline number, which is 8086100100.
